The President of the National Trade Union Centre, Michael Anisette, has warned the Trinidadian government to be prepared for industrial unrest next year as unions reject a 5 per cent wage increase being offered to workers.
Anisette led workers from 20 trade unions through of the streets of the capital today.
He said the Kamla Persad Bissessar government should take note that today’s demonstration is to show solidarity with all workers who have been offered a 5 per cent wage hike by the government.
He said the 20 unions, some of which represent government employees, would continue to fight for better wages.
The government has already said that it cannot meet the demands of the unions.
