Former Grenadian opposition leader calls for fresh elections

Former opposition leader Michael Baptiste has for called fresh elections in light of the recent debacle between Prime Minister Tillman Thomas and three government ministers following last month’s Cabinet reshuffle.

The three had initially refused to take up their new portfolios, but Peter David and Glynnis Roberts were eventually sworn in.

Michael Church later resigned to protest against the Prime Minister’s decision to demote him to a junior minister.

Baptiste, who also served as Grenada’s minister of works, said the rebellion leaves Prime Minister Thomas with a defective government and so he must return to the electorate.
