Guyana criticises CAL over winter travel
The Guyanese government has criticised the Trinidad-based Caribbean Airlines over what it says is its failure to get stranded nationals home from the United States during the Christmas Season.
In a statement yesterday, the tourism ministry said it was extremely disappointed with the poor treatment of Guyanese, particularly during this season.
The Bharrat Jagdeo government also criticised Caribbean Airlines for taking Guyanese from Canada and leaving them in Trinidad to fend for themselves.
However, the airline defended itself, saying that while other carriers have cancelled flights, Caribbean Airlines has been flying on a limited scale and has even provided accommodation for Guyanese who were stranded in Trinidad.
However, the tourism ministry called the delays inexcusable adding that nationals were being subjected to inhumane treatment.
