Jamaica cricketers to play with wet ball in practice match
Jamaica’s senior cricketers will continue their preparation for next month’s Caribbean 20/20 tournament today by playing with wet balls in a practice match at Kensington Park.
New head coach, Gus Logie says the idea of practicing with wet balls is to see how the bowlers and batsmen will cope if they find themselves playing in rainy conditions.
He says he will also introduce the Super Over during the practice match. A Super Over acts as a tiebreaker in a 20/20 match. Each team will face an over each to determine a winner in the case of a tie.
Jamaica’s 14-man squad for the January 10 to 23 tournament in Antigua and Barbados will be led by the experienced left-handed batsman Wavell Hinds.
The squad includes only one newcomer in 22-year-old left-arm seamer Sheldon Cotterel.
Jamaica, who have been drawn in Group A, will open their account against title holders Guyana on the tournament’s opening day.
The other teams in the group are England Friends Provident 20/20 runners-up Somerset, the Combined Campuses and Colleges and the Windward Islands.
