Hosts Australia slipped from 105 for one to 134 for four as England ended today’s rain ruined first day of the fifth and final Ashes Test on top at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Tim Bresnan was the most successful bowler, taking 2 for 47, while Chris Tremlett and Graeme Swann supported with a wicket apiece.
Opener Shane Watson has so far topscored for Australia with 45. Phillip Hughes 31, debutant Usman Khawaja 37 and stand-in captain Michael Clarke 4 are the other batsmen back in the pavilion.
Mike Hussey is undefeated on 5.
Australia must win to square the series at 2-2 and therefore prevent Michael Strauss' team becoming the first tourists since 1986 to 87 to win the Ashes outright down under.
