Haiti on dangerous course says President

Haitian President Rene Preval has warned that a political impasse over the country’s disputed presidential elections has put the quake-hit country on a dangerous course.

His warning was made on television from the northern city of Gonaives, as Haiti marked 207 years of independence from France.

Preval said the country was on a dangerous road because in addition to natural disasters, it was in a political crisis following the November 28 presidential elections.

International monitors have started a verification process aimed at breaking the political impasse following the disputed elections.
