Hundreds of labour activists ignored warnings against strike action in the public service and staged a demonstration in Port of Spain yesterday.
Unions and their members took to the streets after rejecting a five per cent wage offer made by the Trinidad and Tobago government.
The unions are demanding a 15 per cent increase.
President of the Public Service Association Watson Duke says at least half of the estimated 60 thousand public workers had stayed away from work.
On Monday, Finance Minister Winston Dookeran warned public servants they could be jailed and fined if they took part in the protests.
