Three Bermudians caught at sea have been charged in Puerto Rico with possessing a large haul of marijuana, said to be worth US$13 million.
Media reports said a grand jury in the District Court of Puerto Rico charged Shawn Antoine Simmons, Antoine Wenfield, Eugene Russel, Raymont Steven and Bernard Francis on January 4 with possessing the drugs as well as conspiracy to possess the drugs.
The three men were not required to enter pleas.
The trio were taken into custody on December 12 after their 34-foot sailboat Phantasea was intercepted in the Caribbean region.
The trio will appear before US Judge Jose Fuste on Monday, when they will be formally charged with the offences.
