The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) has reaffirmed its commitment to the reconstruction and development of Haiti in a special session convened on the first anniversary of the devastating earthquake that killed an estimated 300,000 people.
Permanent representatives and observers today held a minute of silence in memory of those killed.
In his remarks OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza said today is a sad and solemn occasion for the Haitian people.
He said he is convinced that Haiti will recover from the tragedy with the support of the OAS and the rest of the international community.
