Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls recorded a rare victory over World Number One Australia last night to square their Supreme Ventures Sunshine three-game netball series with a three-point win in the final match. The game took place at the National Indoor Sports Complex in Kingston.
The series ended 1-1. Australia won the first game 63-51 on Wednesday night, while the second game ended in a 49-all tie on Friday night.
Romelda Aikens led Jamaica with a game-high 33 goals from 35 attempts, while captain Simone Forbes had 19 from 21 and Anna-Kay Griffiths two from three.
For Australia, Sharelle McMahon scored 15 from 22 attempts, Natalie Medhurst and Kate Beveridge 13 from 16 and Catherine Cox 10 from 21.
Jamaica’s netball coach Connie Francis credited the Sunshine Girlz’ victory to good teamwork.
Australia’s coach Norma Plummer says Jamaica deserved the victory.
The teams used the series as part of their preparations for this year’s World Championships in July in Singapore. Jamaica will next host England in April.
