Guyana's Ethnic Relations Commission is calling for responsible behaviour as the country moves into election mode.
General elections are expected to be held this year.
The commission has significant powers and can impose fines against people found guilty of inciting racism.
It's chairman, Bishop Juan Edgehill, says he is quite aware that past elections have been problematic because Indo and Afro Guyanese tend to mobilise along racial lines.
However, he says the commission would be monitoring to ensure that the content of election related material does not incite racism.
