Search on for venue to stage CARIFTA Games
With three months away from the start of the annual CARIFTA Games, the region’s major junior track and field meet is without a venue.
However, president of North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association Neville ‘Teddy’ McCook said he is positive that the April 22 to 24 Games will be held despite problems in securing a venue.
McCook comments came a few days after track and field officials in The Bahamas took a firm decision not to host the event.
The Bahamas was approached to host the event late last year after St Kitts withdrew earlier that year.
McCook said he received a letter from The Bahamas yesterday advising about its withdrawal because of financial difficulties.
The former president of the Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association said the search is now on for a venue.
However, he said there was no need for panic citing that a few years ago Jamaica came to the rescue after Trinidad and Tobago decided not to stage the event with six weeks to go.
Jamaica has hosted the event six times, the last in 1996.
The CARIFTA Games is traditionally held over the Easter weekend.
