Jamaica well poised to qualify for CT20 semis
Jamaica will attempt to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2011 Caribbean 20/Twenty Championship in Barbados today when they face Windward Islands in their final Group ‘A’ preliminary round match.
The match is scheduled to bowl off at 8 p.m. at Kensington Oval and is the second of two Group ‘A’ games at the venue.
English side Somerset and Combined Campuses and Colleges will face off in the opening game at 4 p.m.
Jamaica are well poised to qualify and sit top of the group with eight points courtesy of net run rate. The top two teams from each group will qualify for Saturday’s semi-finals.
Windward Islands and reigning champions Guyana are also on eight points, but the Guyanese have completed their schedule.
Meanwhile, the crucial Group ‘B’ match between Trinidad and Tobago and Hampshire ended in a no-result last night.
Darren Bravo was not out on 20 and Jason Mohammed was not out on 15, as T&T choosing to bat, reached 70 for four from 9.5 overs when a second stoppage for rain prevented any further play in the match at Kensington Oval.
Both sides are tied at the top of the standings on nine points. However, T&T are ahead with a superior net run rate of plus 1.425.
The final set of games in that group will take place tomorrow.
