St Maarten shaken up by earthquake

St Maarten was last night shaken up by an earthquake.



Reports from Philipsburg say residents experience a tremor that lasted for several seconds shortly before midnight.



The earthquake of 5.0 on the Richter scale is reported to have occurred close to Montserrat.



Newspaper reports quote some St Maarten residents as saying that they heard a loud rumbling noise before the quake.



There were no reports of damage or injury.
