Jamaica win consolation final
Jamaica completed a nine-run victory over Windward Islands last night to win third place in the 2011 West Indies Cricket Board-sponsored Caribbean 20/Twenty Championship at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
The Jamaicans, choosing to bat after winning the toss, compiled 153 for eight off their allotted 20 overs and then restricted Windward Islands to 144 for nine.
Danza Hyatt 43 not out from 21 balls; Xavier Marshall 36 from 33 deliveries and Shawn Findlay 25 from 30 balls scored most runs for Jamaica.
Nelon Pascal was the most successful bowler for Windward Islands with three for 21.
Odean Brown and Dave Bernard Junior then took three wickets apiece to help set up Jamaica’s victory.
Debutant Sheldon Cotterrel supported well with two for 17 from his four overs, while Andre Russell had one for 49 off his four overs.
Lindel Lawrence 36 and Gary Mathurin 25 were the leading rungetters for Windward Islands.
Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago were crowned champions after easily defeating Hampshire, the English 20/Twenty champions, by 36 runs in the final last night. The final was also played at Kensington Oval.
T&T batting first made 147 for seven off their allotted 20 overs and then restricted Hampshire to 111 for eight.
T&T had already earned the right to represent the region at the Airtel Champion League later in the year by virtue of being the highest placed team in the Caribbean 20/Twenty.
They accomplished that feat on Saturday night after defeating Jamaica by eight wickets in the semi-finals.
