LIME/INSPORTS league kicks off today
The inaugural LIME/INSPORTS Primary League football competition kicks off today at the National Stadium East field with a triple-header.
August Town Primary and George Headley Primary will face off in the opening match this morning at 11 a.m.
The other matches are Jessie Ripoll facing Rollington Town and Dunrobin Primary playing Holy Family Primary.
Last week, telecommunications firm LIME announced a three-year sponsorship valued at $60 million of the league which will bring together teams from more than 200 primary schools to compete for a national championship.
The tournament, which will be run for three months, will involve a preliminary round-robin phase, followed by a knockout round of 16 of the top teams from each parish.
Through the staging of this competition, Jamaica becomes the first nation in the region to adopt the FIFA grass-roots format, which allows for maximum of seven substitutions, smaller playing fields, smaller goals and teams of nine players.
