Japan and The Bahamas have signed a treaty to exchange information to prevent international tax evasion.
Under the pact, the two countries have agreed to provide information, including data possessed by financial institutions, to each other when requested.
Tax exchange information has emerged as an important international issue in the wake of the global financial crisis.
The Japanese Foreign Ministry says the pact was signed by Japanese Ambassador to The Bahamas Hiroshi Yama-guchi and Bahamian Foreign Minister Brent Symonette.
