St. Lucia’s ruling United Workers Party (UWP) is seeking to resolve a controversy within its ranks between two siblings who are seeking to represent the party in upcoming general elections.
Leslie Mondesir is threatening to go up as an independent candidate in the Anse La Raye Cannaries constituency if he is not backed by the party.
The seat is currently held by Leslie’s brother, health minister, Dr. Keith Mondesir.
The United Workers Party has said that it is backing Dr. Mondesir as its candidate for the next elections.
However, Leslie Mondesir has been very critical of the quality of constituency representation provided by his brother.
He has also called for political leader Stephenson King to hold a run off to decide the better candidate.
