A senior member of Antigua's governing United Progressive Party has called for Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer to drop corruption charges against former leader Lester Bird and other members of the previous administration.

Bird and some of his colleagues are facing a slew of courts cases relating to their stewardship.

Post election court battles have left the government and opposition in Antigua bitterly divided.

Health minister, Wilmoth Daniel, said the move would serve to heal fractions in the country.

Daniel said this should begin with forgiveness for former Prime Minister Lester Bird.
