Sri Lanka beat West Indies in second ODI

West Indies suffered an eight-wicket defeat to hosts Sri Lanka under the Duckworth-Lewis Method in the second One-Day International today at the Singhalese Sports Club.



Sent in to bat, West Indies were bowled out for 203 in 50 overs and Sri Lanka chased down a rain-affected target of 197 in 47 overs to finish on 199 for two.



The Bravo’s brothers, Darren and Dwayne top scored for West Indies with 39 runs apiece. Darren scored his 39 runs from 64 balls and Dwayne took 55 deliveries to get to his 39.



The Jamaican pair of wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh Junior and opener Chris Gayle chipped in with 28 runs each, while Ramnaresh Sarwan got 21.



Lasith Malinga was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka with three for 30, while Muttiah Muralitharan and Nuwan Kulasekara supported with two wickets each.



Upul Tharanga steered the host to victory with an unbeaten century. The opener scored 101 from 143 balls. Mahela Jayawardene was unbeaten on 48.



Ravi Rampaul and Dwayne Bravo took the wickets for West Indies.



As a result of the victory, Sri Lanka are 1-0 up in the three-match series, the first game ended in a no-result because of rain.



The teams meet in the third and final match of the series on Saturday night.
