Barbados warns about warship removal

Barbados Police Commissioner, Darwin Dottin, is warning that the British withdrawal of warships from the Caribbean would be a serious blow.

The withdrawal means the UK Navy will no longer provide a warship for anti-narcotics operations in the Caribbean, and will have to reduce its role in disaster relief work.

The planned withdrawal, linked to budget cuts, has been rumoured for months.

According to London's Guardian newspaper a formal announcement is imminent.

Dottin says if the warships withdraw Caribbean nations would now have to work harder to stem the flow of drugs.
