Egyptian government set up transition committee
The Egyptian government says it has set up two committees to manage a transition of power.
This follows two weeks of protests for President Hosni Mubarak to leave office immediately.
The protesters now say they are sceptical about any transition managed by the government.
A third committee has also been set up to investigate last week’s clashes between pro- and anti-Mubarak groups and refer its findings to the prosecutor general.
That group is expected to begin its work in the next few days.
Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch researchers say they have confirmed the deaths of 297 people since January 28, based on a count from seven hospitals in the cities of Cairo, Alexandria and Suez.
No comprehensive death toll has been given by the Egyptian government.
