The United States has called for the Egyptian government to immediately lift the country's emergency laws, which have been in place for 30 years.
Vice President Joe Biden made the call during a telephone conversation yesterday with his Egyptian counterpart, Omar Suleiman.
It came after a day of renewed anti-government protests in Cairo and other Egyptian cities.
Protestors have mounted several mass demonstrations in the past two weeks demanding the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak.
