Robert Kubica leaves intensive care unit
Renault's Robert Kubica has been moved from intensive care as he continues his recovery following a high-speed rally crash in Italy on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Pole suffered multiple fractures and will undergo two operations on his foot and upper arm at an Italian hospital tomorrow.
A further operation on Kubica's elbow has been scheduled for Monday.
Kubica has been at the Savona's Santa Corona di Pietra Ligure hospital, 35 miles south-west of Genoa, since crashing his Skoda Fabia against a church wall during the Ronde di Andora rally.
The Pole, who finished eighth in the 2010 drivers' table, partially severed his right hand in the accident as well as suffering fractures to his right leg.
He was in an induced coma following seven hours of surgery before waking briefly on Monday morning but has since been moved from intensive care to a trauma unit.
Kubica looks almost certain to miss the entire 2011 Formula One season as he recovers from his injuries.
