USA and Costa Rica record victories in U-17 qualifiers in Jamaica

Title holders, the USA and Costa Rica got their CONCACAF Under-17 World Cup Qualifiers off to perfect starts on today’s opening day of the tournament at the Catherine Hall Stadium in Montego Bay.
The USA recorded a 3-1 victory over Cuba in the second game of the double-header to grab the early lead in Group ‘B’.
Alfred Karoma, Andrew Oliver and Esteban Rodriques Junior were on target for the Americans; while Frank Lopez scored for Cuba.
Costa Rica also secured a 3-1 victory, this over Haiti in the opening match of the Qualifiers.
William Quirox, captain Gabriel Leiva and John Ruiz scored for Costa Rica in the Zone ‘A’ game.
Johnley Chery scored the only goal for Haiti, who ended the game with 10 players following the ejection of Luckenson Demosthene
Hosts Jamaica, drawn in Group-C, will open their campaign against Caribbean rivals Trinidad and Tobago tomorrow afternoon at the Catherine Hall Stadium.
The match is set to kick off at 3 o’clock, following the opening game between Barbados and Honduras at 12 o’clock and the Opening Ceremony at 2 o’clock.
Twelve teams are taking part in the two-week tournament. The top four teams will qualify for the FIFA Under-17 Boys’ World Cup in June in Mexico.
