The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is again calling for an end to the colonial system.

Ban reiterated the UN’s desire for an immediate end to colonialism in a speech to the world body's committee on decolonisation.

The committee reviews the cases of the world's 16 remaining non-self-governing territories, six of which are in the Caribbean.

Ban said that those territories are awaiting constructive, results-oriented initiatives.

He added that such colonial situations are completely outdated and called for renewed vigour and creativity to address the issue.
