Libyan crackdown escalates
Thousands of people are reported to have been killed in Libya as the government clamps down on anti-government forces.
According to the head of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Navi Pillay thousand of people were also injured.
For the past week, fighting has raged between the anti-government forces and troops loyal to Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, who has been in power for 42 years.
Witnesses in Tripoli say pro-Gaddafi forces have opened fire on protesters.
Meanwhile, NATO ambassadors are said to be holding emergency talks.
The UK and France are pushing for an arms embargo and a war crimes investigation.
In Geneva, the UN Human Rights Council is meeting in special session for the first time to discuss the crisis in Libya.
Libya is an elected member of the council but some members have called for it to lose its seat.
