The Secretary General of the Organisation of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza says he is optimistic a new head of state will be peacefully elected in the March 20 second round presidential elections in Haiti.
Insulza made the comment after talks with Caribbean Community leaders on the last day of their two-day inter-sessional summit Grenada on the weekend.
He referred to the concerns as to whether the French-speaking CARICOM country should have held the first round of its presidential and legislative elections in November last year.
However, noted that outgoing President Rene Preval made the decision to have the elections.
The results were later marred by allegations of fraud, voter intimidation and other irregularities.
