Jamaica crush Leeward Islands

Three-time defending champions Jamaica have climbed top of the points’ table following a crushing 10-wicket victory over Leeward Islands on yesterday’s final day of their fourth round match in the Regional first-class championship at Warner Park in St Kitts.



The victory earned Jamaica the full 12 points to increase their tally to 36, three clear of Trinidad and Tobago, who scored a 51-run victory over Windward Islands at the Arnos Vale Multi-Purpose Complex in St Vincent.



England Lions slipped to third place on 30 points after battling to a draw with Combined Campuses and Colleges at the Three Ws Oval in Barbados.



Combined Campuses and Colleges are now in fourth place on 27 points.



Dave Bernard Junior completed a memorable spell of bowling to set up Jamaica’s victory, and condemn Leeward Islands to their third loss in the championship.



Bernard ended with five wickets for 40 runs from 16 overs, as Leeward Islands, following on 199 behind on first innings, were dismissed for 209 in their second innings.



With only 11 runs for victory, Jamaica ended on 13 without loss.



Final scores in the game are Jamaica 504 for five declared and 13 without loss, Leeward Islands 305 and 209.



The match between Guyana and Barbados at the Guyana National Stadium also ended in a draw.



The fifth round bowls off on March 11.
