Jamaicans advance to medal round

Jamaicans Nikita Tracey, Jura Levy and Nickel Ashmeade have advanced to the medal round of their events on today’s third day of the 12th IAAF World Junior Championship in Poland.



Tracey qualified for the women’s 400-metre hurdles final after finishing third in Heat One of the semi-final this morning.



Tracy clocked 57.84 in the race won by Meghan Beesley of Britain in a season best 57.24.



Levy advanced following a second place finish in the women’s 200-metre semi-final. She clocked 23.92. Meritzer Williams of St. Kitts and Nevis won the race in 23.77.



Ashmeade clocked 20.83 to win Heat One of the Men’s 200 metres to book his place. His teammate Ramone McKenzie, 21.60, finished a disappointing last in Heat Three.



All three finals are scheduled to tomorrow afternoon.



Jamaica have so far won one medal, a gold that was achieved by Dexter Lee in the men’s 100 metres on yesterday’s second day.
