The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad-Bissessar, says her administration will keep up the pressure on criminals, after losing a critical death penalty vote in parliament yesterday.
The government was outvoted in its attempts to amend the constitution to reinstate the execution of convicted murderers.
The legislation sought to put the power in the hands of the president of the republic to decide how long the state should wait for appeals to international human rights bodies.
The opposition voted against the bill, which requires their support for its passage.
However, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says the defeat does not mean that she'll be giving up the fight against crime.
