Kevin O'Brien blazed the fastest century in Cricket World Cup history today as Ireland pulled off an astonishing victory over England at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, India.
He smashed 113 off 63 balls as Ireland recovered from 111 for 5 to overhaul their target of 328 with five balls to spare and three wickets in hand.
O’Brien put on a 162-run partnership with Alex Cusack who scored 47.
Graeme Swann was the most successful bowler for England with three for 47.
Earlier, fifties from Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell had driven England to an imposing 327 for 8 off their allotted 50 overs.
Trott scored a run-a-ball 92, while Bell supported well with 81 and Pietersen chipped in with 59.
John Mooney picked up four wickets for 62 runs to end as the most successful bowler for Ireland.
The competition continues tomorrow with the Netherlands facing South Africa at Mohali in India and Canada meeting Pakistan at Colombo in Sri Lanka.
