Eyewitnesses and rebels say four towns which Libyan forces loyal to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi claim to have retaken remain under rebel control.

The BBC says Tobruk and Ras Lanuf remain in rebel hands, while Anti-Gaddafi forces still control Misrata and Zawiya. Fresh attacks have been launched in Misrata and Ras Lanuf and clashes have been reported in the small town of Bin Jawad.

In the capital, Tripoli, officials have said that there was pre-dawn gunfire to celebrate pro-Gaddafi “gains” of the towns.

Ras Lanuf was taken by opposition forces on Saturday.
