The body of a US student who went missing in Madrid more than a week ago has been recovered from a river in the Spanish capital.

Twenty-two year-old Austin Taylor Bice, had been studying business at Madrid's Carlos the third University on exchange programme with San Diego State University.

A police official said the cause of death was not known but there were no signs of foul play.

Friends say Bice was last seen trying to get into a night club.

Police say his body was found in the Manzanares River, a shallow, slow-moving waterway in western Madrid, not far from the night club.
