A Trinidad-born United States army veteran is facing deportation back to his home country.

Ramdeo Chankarsingh has been denied citizen after he failed to get a green card under a special US army program.

Chankarsingh is said to have illegally travelled to the US as a teenager and worked in Florida orange fields before joining the army where he served in the medical division in Kosovo.

The former medic, who works as a nurse, will try to persuade an immigration judge this month to let him stay in America.
