Niphal, Uncle Ken win feature races

NIPHAL and UNCLE KEN won the final prep races for the April 2 Guineas classics at Caymanas Park today.



Niphal, ridden by claiming apprentice Richard Mairs, took the Thornbird Stakes for fillies at odds of 9-to-1.



She was three lengths clear of even-money favourite SWEET BROWNING with Panamanian jockey Dick Cardenas. Another 4-and-a-half lengths in third was the Winston Griffiths-ridden CARIDAD at odds of 5-to-2.



And UNCLE KEN with former champion Shane Ellis scored an easy 3-and-a-half- length victory in the Prince Consort Stakes for colts. The 8-to-1 choice finished well ahead of TRADITIONAL PRICE with Richard Mitchell. The 4-to-5 favourite JET SETTER with champion jockey Omar Walker finished ninth.
