Danny Glover to escort Aristide home

Prominent humanitarian activist and actor Danny Glover is said to be in Johannesburg to escort Haiti's exiled former President Jean Bertrand Aristide to his homeland.

Aristide is preparing to leave South Africa after seven years in exile.

Haiti's first democratically elected President plans to defy US calls for him to delay his return until after Sunday's crucial Presidential runoff.

The Americans say his presence could destabilise Haiti at a critical time and plunge the country back into further violence.

Collins Chabane, minister for the presidency in South Africa, says Aristide has given the South African cabinet no indication of when he would leave.
