David Luiz helped keep Chelsea's faint Barclays Premier League title hopes alive as they beat their fellow high-flyers Manchester City 2-0 at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

Defender Luiz broke the deadlock in the 78th minute before Ramires wrapped up the points in stoppage time.

The win lifted Chelsea above Manchester City into third and back within nine points of Manchester United with a game in hand.

City talisman Carlos Tevez missed the game through injury.

In yesterday's other game, Dirk Kuyt and Luis Suarez fired Liverpool to a 2-0 victory at Sunderland as the Reds boosted their bid for European football.
