Jackson, Porter shine at CARIFTA trials

Shericka Jackson of Vere Technical was among the outstanding performers on yesterday’s second and final day of the CARIFTA Trials at the Stadium East field.
The trials will be used to select Jamaica’s team for the upcoming CARIFTA Games.
Jackson, considered the country’s best junior over the 200 metres, easily won the Girls’ Under 20 final in 23.85 seconds. Celia Walters of Racers Track club was second in 24.04.
In the Boys’ Under-20 200-metre final, Kemarley Brown of St Elizabeth Technical clocked 21.14 seconds for an easy victory, over Oneil Todd of Green Island, who clocked 21.36.
In the Under-17 200-metre events, Jamaica Colleges’ Rohan Walker took the boys’ final in 22 seconds flat and Jonielle Smith won the girls’ race in 24.43.
Chanice Porter of Manchester High also had a good day. She produced a personal-best 1.85 metres to beat Peter-Gaye Reid of St Elizabeth Technical and national junior record holder Kimberley Williams of Edwin Allen in the Girls’ Under-20 high jump.
Reid and Williams both cleared 1.80 metres.
In the Under-20 400-metre finals, Roger Blake of Bellefield won the boys’ race in 48.24 seconds and Allison Daley of Holmwood took the girls’ event in 56.38.
St Jago’s Khadeen Wilson took the Boys’ Under-17 400-metre final in 49.08 and Abigail Ferguson of St Catherine High won the girls’ final in 57.79.
