TCI airport to resume operations

Normal operations are expected to resume at the Providenciales International Airport in the Turks and Caicos Islands today, following a sick out by public servants yesterday.

Flights into and out of the islands were disrupted because of the industrial action by firefighters and other government employees.

Earlier this month, the Civil Service Association put forward a list of proposals to the government requesting changes to payroll and pensions, and demanded a reply within seven days.

A government statement said that work on a detailed response will soon be completed and is expected to be issued by the end of this week.

The statement said the union's action is likely to backfire, by causing a delay in the payment of wages.
