Barbados defeat Jamaica

Jamaica’s women yesterday lost their second straight game in the Caribbean Volleyball Championships being staged in Bridgetown, Barbados.



The Jamaicans went down 3-2 to Barbados in a gruelling five-set thriller. The scores were 25-17, 25-22, 16-25, 21-25, 15-16.



The Barbadians, runners-up to Trinidad and Tobago at the last tournament two years ago in the Bahamas, squandered a two-set lead before recovering.



Barbados remain unbeaten after two matches in Group ‘D’ to lead with four points. Bahamas and Jamaica are one point behind.



Earlier, the Bahamian women outclassed the United States Virgin Islands 3 sets to one. The scores were 25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16.



In another match, the Netherland Antilles crushed Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States men’s champions Dominica in straight sets, 25-15, 25-16, 25-17.



The competition continues today.
