The St. Lucia government has reportedly changed its strategy to get the national carrier CARICOM Airlines flying after being stone-walled by the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA).
According to a senior official from the Ministry of Tourism Castries will now look to acquire an Air Operating Certificate (AOC) from Barbados in order to allow the airline to operate in the Eastern Caribbean.
St Lucia had been told it needed to get an AOC from the ECCA that would take at least eight months to materalise after the sub-regional authority said it could not use the certificate from Suriname.
Officials say that Barbados permission could be granted within a three month period.
