DLP appeals high court ruling on Bruney's appointment

The governing Dominica Labour Party (DLP) has filed an application for leave to appeal a High Court ruling to remove the main opposition United Workers Party’s nominee to the Integrity Commission (IPC).

Last week, Dominica High Court Judge Brian Cottle, granted leave for a judicial review of the appointment of Dave Bruney, who was named to the IPC to replace businesswoman, Patricia Inglis, who resigned last month.

However, the injunction was not granted to stop Mr. Bruney from sitting on the Commission. Members of the ruling DLP had warned that they would seek a court order to have Mr. Bruney removed from the Commission if President Nicolas Liverpool failed to do so.

Mr. Bruney served as the media coordinator of the main opposition party for several years and was sworn in as a member of the Commission on April 7.
