Haiti shipped its first consignment of goods to Grenada under a temporary non-reciprocal preferential basis with other CARICOM member states.

CARICOM assistant secretary-general for trade and economic development, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, has hailed the development as positive.

Haiti has only recently become a part of CARICOM’s trading arrangements.

The shipment of items includes wall decorations, candle and napkin holders, and wind chimes.

The shipment was made under the special arrangement agreed by the Council of Trade and Economic Development, COTED, and endorsed by CARICOM heads of government.

Haiti made the request for the arrangement in May 2010 at the 13th COTED meeting in Georgetown.
