The St. Lucian police are questioning two men in connection with the rape of two female British nationals by six masked men while on an isolated beach on the island’s north east coast.

Police have said that the two women who are in their early 30’s were on an environmental expedition which entailed camping at the location.

Police say the women returned to their camp to find that their belongings had been tampered with and as they were making preparations to leave, they were attacked and raped by the men.

Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture are also investigating the incident. They explained that officers from the department would normally accompany students undertaking such assignments in isolated locations.

The St. Lucia Crisis Center has urged people to be more cognizant and aware of their surroundings especially in unfamiliar or secluded areas.
