Jamaican former world record holder Asafa Powell has hit at claims that he lacks the mental strength to win an Olympic gold medal.
Powell said he is surprised with the views from the public considering that the 2004 Athens Games was his first Olympics.
He said he did well in the final in that he ran a personal best.
Powell is still to win a major global title despite being the world’s best sprinter for much of the past four years.
With world champion Tyson Gay struggling with injury and new world record holder Usain Bolt to commit to the 100 metres in Beijing, Powell is in pole position to seize the Olympic crown.
