Powell, Bolt face off today

The world’s fastest man Usain Bolt of Jamaica will make his first track appearance for 2011 today when he contest the 100 metres at the Rome athletics Gala today.
The race is scheduled to start at 2.45 p.m. this afternoon Jamaica time.
Bolt, who holds the world records in the 100 and 200, has not raced since August when he was beaten by American Tyson Gay.
The American won’t be at the Golden Gala meeting today but Bolt’s old rival and teammate Asafa Powell, the former world record holder, will be there to provide stiff contest.
There are two other Jamaican sprinters in the field, Mario Forsythe and Lerone Clarke. The field also includes Kim Collins of St Kitts and Nevis and Trinidadian Richard Thompson.
The other Jamaican men down to compete are Marvin Anderson, who will contest the 200 metres at 1.38 p.m. and national record holder Jermaine Gonzales in the 400 metres at 2.53 p.m.
On the women’s side, Jamaica will be represented by Shericka Williams, who is down to run the 400-metre at 1.30 p.m. and Kerron Stewart, who will face American Allyson Felix in the 200-metre race at 2.15 p.m.
The Rome Gala is the third stop on the Samsung Diamond League series.
