Two wins for Jamaica in Eugene

Steve Mullings and Kenia Sinclair were the only Jamaican winners at today’s Nike Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, USA, the fourth stop of the Samsung Diamond League series.
Mullings was very impressive in the men’s 100 metres – flashing to a meeting record and season-best 9 point 8-0 to claim the win. His time was just short of the 9.79 seconds world leading clocking by training partner Tyson Gay in Clermont only hours before.
USA’s Mike Rogers also produced a personal best time of 9.85 seconds for second, while Jamaica’s Nesta Cater took third in 9.92. Finishing fourth was Darvis Patton of USA, at 9.94, the same time as Jamaica’s Michael Frater in fifth.
Sinclair won the women’s 800 metres in a world-leading 1:58.29, ahead of Caster Semenya of South Africa, who clocked a season-best 1:58.88 seconds.
In the women’s 100 metres American Carmelita Jeter powered her way to world-leading and meet record 10.70 seconds to destroy a strong field.
Jamaica’s Olympic silver medallist Kerron Stewart was third in a season-best 10.87. Olympic and world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was fourth in 10.95, ahead of her Jamaican compatriot Sherone Simpson, who ran a season-best 11 seconds flat.
