The Syrian government has been accused of committing crimes against humanity.

The accusations were made at the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands by a delegation of human rights organisations and their lawyers.

The group alleged that Syrian authorities have killed more than ,1,000 people, injured 3,000 others, randomly detained 11,000 and forced the disappearance of 893 dissidents.

The International Criminal Court said it does not have jurisdiction over crimes committed in Syria by Syrian forces as the country is not a member of the court.

A spokesman told CNN that the international court would have had jurisdiction if people who committed the alleged crimes in Syria were nationals of a member country.
