Caribbean leader heads UN body
Antigua and Barbuda’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Ambassador Conrad Hunte has been chosen to serve as the first chairman of the newly-formed International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Finance Committee.
The Committee is one of three established by the UN General Assembly at its first session in April.
Hunte said he is pleased by the confidence the IRENA representatives have displayed in him.
He said it’s his intention to work with all members of the Committee, the IRENA Council and the Assembly to ensure its vision for a world where modern and effective renewable energy is accessible in all countries.
Some of committee’s tasks include reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate change, alleviating energy poverty, supporting sustainable development, and boosting economic growth.
